Progress Report April '21

April 30th, 2021

Howdy, everyone. It’s the end of April, and much like the progress report for March, this month’s tally of work comprises editing, editing, editing. Did I mention all the editing? It’s crazy how many things people trained in various aspects of writing can miss when you take something that’s almost 212K words long and pour over it.

I’ve spent the last two weeks going over the returned proofreading edits of Deceit, and I’m excited, and simultaneously afraid, to announce that I think the text is all buttoned up and ready to ship out. Now it’s just a matter of formatting the front and back matter for the ebooks versus the print versions and putting some marketing ducks in a row.

Given the lessons I just learned from Deceit (book 1), I began a round of intense review on the copy edits for Dishonor (book 3) today, which I received this past weekend. I’ve got some habits that I used to think were stylish and cool, and it turns out I’m no longer a fan. So I’ll be removing that bit of annoying claptrap before the manuscript even gets to my proofreading editor this time.

Unfortunately, I sent Decline (book 2) out for final edits before I came to that little realization, so I’ll have to be extra careful when removing things I don’t like once it comes back, which I’m expecting to be next week.

With the editing ball rolling—sometimes straight over the top of me, it feels—I’m working hard to pin down an official launch date for all three books. Right now I’m thinking it’s going to be somewhere between October 1st and year’s end. Stay tuned!
