Progress Report June '21

June 30th, 2021

It’s the last day of June, so that means it must be time for another progress post. After approving the final edits for Decline (book 2) at the start of the month, I submitted Dishonor (book 3) for its turn through the polishing wheel. I’m happy to report that my editor emailed me just moments before sitting down to write this and told me to expect the finished manuscript tomorrow.

The writing lull between getting Decline buttoned up and waiting for Dishonor to come back from editing gave me some time to shift gears and focus on other things. The beginning of the month tacked on another year to this not-so-young dude’s life tally, and I spent a pleasant evening out with my wife, listening to live blues music. It was the first time we’d been to a venue like that in over a year, and the change of pace was refreshing.

I also took a little time to hop on a plane and visit family I haven’t seen in a couple of years, thanks to COVID. That too was incredibly satisfying, and I wished it could’ve lasted a wee bit longer. But these books—and all the peripherals needed to support them—don’t finish themselves, unfortunately, and I finished up the month making tweaks to this website. Amongst the links in the navigation, you’ll find a new bio page for yours truly, along with a collection of photos, as well as a form you can use to contact me.

In addition to the web work, I received a paperback version of Deceit (book 1) in the mail. It almost passed muster, but the book title touched the crease line for the binding, so I noted the poor spacing and sent my feedback to the marketing team for some tailoring.

If all goes well, I should have Dishonor (book 3) all finished up within two weeks from tomorrow, to include formatting for the eBook and typesetting for the two print versions. After that, I’ll be working with my cover designer to finalize the dust jacket covers for the hardback versions of all three books. Once those are complete and press-checked, it’ll be time to push the magic go button.
